The spike drives into soft ground: soil, grass, beach sand, and unpaved parade ground. It is not intended for hard surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, or tiling — for those surfaces you need a weighted base that sits on top of the ground.
Of the 73 cm (29 in) total length, 48 cm (19 in) goes into the ground and the rest stays above it as the socket that receives the pole. That anchoring depth is what keeps the pole upright without guy ropes or counterweights.
The top socket is a standard diameter and accepts most flag poles and promotional banner supports. If your pole has an unusual diameter, tell us at order time and we will confirm compatibility before shipping.
Drive the spike in with a mallet, striking the collar rather than the socket, until the collar is level with the ground. To remove it, rock it slightly back and forth and pull upward. Rinse off the soil before storage to protect the finish.
