Turkish Flag Dimensions and Sizes — Official 2:3 Ratio Guide
The Official Ratio of the Turkish Flag Is 2:3
Every correctly made Turkish flag shares one number: 2:3. The hoist (the short side, along the pole) is two units, the fly (the long side) is three. This proportion is set by Turkish Flag Law No. 2893 and the regulation issued under it, and it does not change with size — a 50x75cm balcony flag and a 20x30m mast flag are the same shape, only scaled.
This is why a flag can be "the wrong size" even when the fabric and print are perfect. A 100x140cm flag is not a Turkish flag at a smaller scale; it is a distorted one. The crescent and star are laid out on a grid derived from the hoist, so once the ratio drifts, the emblem drifts with it.
Everything below is built on that rule. The sizes listed are the standard sizes we actually produce, and every one of them resolves to 2:3.
How to Calculate Turkish Flag Dimensions
There are only two formulas, and they are the same rule read from either end:
- Hoist = fly × 2 / 3 — you know the long side, you need the short one.
- Fly = hoist × 1.5 — you know the short side, you need the long one.
Worked examples
- A 150cm-long flag: 150 × 2 / 3 = 100 → 100x150cm.
- A flag 80cm on the hoist: 80 × 1.5 = 120 → 80x120cm.
- A 6m mast flag, 4m on the hoist: 4 × 1.5 = 6 → 400x600cm.
A quick sanity check when a supplier quotes you a size: divide the long side by the short side. If the answer is not 1.5, the flag is not to specification.
Standard Turkish Flag Sizes — Full Table
These eighteen sizes are the standard outdoor range, from a balcony flag to a monumental mast flag. Sizes up to 600x900cm are quoted in centimetres; beyond that they move to metres.
| Size | Ratio check | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 50x75cm | 2:3 | Small balcony rail, boat, vehicle, classroom stand |
| 60x90cm | 2:3 | Apartment balcony, short garden pole |
| 70x105cm | 2:3 | Wall-mounted and telescopic pole kits |
| 80x120cm | 2:3 | House facade, small shop entrance |
| 100x150cm | 2:3 | The most requested size — offices, balconies, standard poles |
| 120x180cm | 2:3 | Shopfronts, school yards, dealerships |
| 150x225cm | 2:3 | Hotel entrances, municipal buildings |
| 200x300cm | 2:3 | Public buildings, factory and campus poles |
| 300x450cm | 2:3 | Tall poles in plazas and industrial sites |
| 400x600cm | 2:3 | Ceremonial grounds, large public squares |
| 500x750cm | 2:3 | High masts, stadium and arena display |
| 600x900cm | 2:3 | City square masts, national day installations |
| 7x10.5m | 2:3 | Monumental masts |
| 8x12m | 2:3 | Monumental masts, building facades |
| 10x15m | 2:3 | Landmark masts, stadium facades |
| 12x18m | 2:3 | Large-scale facade and mast display |
| 15x22.5m | 2:3 | Monumental national day display |
| 20x30m | 2:3 | The largest standard size we produce |
Up to and including 100x150cm the usual fabric is 110 gsm raschel knit; the same sizes are also produced in alpaca for a heavier, denser look. From 200x300cm upward, seam construction and header reinforcement matter more than the fabric name, because the load on the hoist edge rises with area.
Which Size Goes Where
Balcony and house facade
50x75cm and 60x90cm suit a railing; 80x120cm and 100x150cm suit a facade bracket where the flag hangs clear of the wall. The rule of thumb is that the flag should not touch the wall, a railing or plants when it hangs still.
Building facades and institutional poles
120x180cm to 300x450cm covers most schools, municipal buildings, hotels and factories. Size is driven by pole height, not by preference: a flag roughly one quarter to one third of the pole height reads correctly from the street.
Ceremonial grounds and monumental masts
400x600cm and above are used on tall steel masts and on building facades for national days. At these sizes wind load is the design constraint, and the flag is normally ordered together with the mast specification.
Executive offices and protocol rooms
Indoors, the standard is a 100x150cm flag on a floor pole — the single size that covers almost every office, boardroom and reception area.
Desks
A desk flag is 15x22.5cm on a stand with a total height of about 33cm. It is the same 2:3 shape as a mast flag, scaled down.
Turkish Flag Sizes by Product Type
The 2:3 range above applies to rectangular flags. Pennants, buntings and hood covers are cut to their own shapes and carry their own size sets.

The Red Is Pantone 186 C
Size is half of a correct flag; colour is the other half. The red of the Turkish flag is Pantone 186 C, and we print it with high-definition digital printing so the colour stays vivid and fade-resistant. Two flags of the same size from different suppliers can still look wrong next to each other if one of them drifted off 186 C.
When several flags are displayed together — a row of poles, a stage backdrop, a hall of pennants — order them in one production run. Matching size and matching red are both easier to guarantee within a single run than across separate orders.
Custom Sizes and Bulk Orders
The eighteen standard sizes cover almost every request, but flags outside the list are produced to order for masts with fixed hardware, historic buildings and stage sets. Send the hoist measurement and we will calculate the fly at 2:3, or send the pole height and we will recommend the size.
Tiered pricing applies to municipalities, government offices, schools, hotel groups and chain retail. Multi-site organisations are best produced in a single run so every branch flies the same size in the same red.
Frequently Asked Questions — Turkish Flag Dimensions
The official ratio is 2:3 — the hoist is two units and the fly is three. It is set by Turkish Flag Law No. 2893 and the regulation issued under it, and it stays the same at every size, from a 50x75cm balcony flag to a 20x30m mast flag.
The standard outdoor range is eighteen sizes: 50x75cm, 60x90cm, 70x105cm, 80x120cm, 100x150cm, 120x180cm, 150x225cm, 200x300cm, 300x450cm, 400x600cm, 500x750cm, 600x900cm, then 7x10.5m, 8x12m, 10x15m, 12x18m, 15x22.5m and 20x30m. Every one of them is 2:3.
Hoist = fly x 2 / 3, or fly = hoist x 1.5. For example a 150cm-long flag is 150 x 2 / 3 = 100cm on the hoist, giving 100x150cm. To check a size you are quoted, divide the long side by the short side: the answer must be 1.5.
50x75cm and 60x90cm suit a railing bracket, while 80x120cm and 100x150cm suit a facade bracket where the flag hangs clear of the wall. The flag should not touch the wall, the railing or plants when it hangs still.
The flag is 15x22.5cm and the total height on the stand is about 33cm. A double desk flag set carries two flags on one base, about 34cm tall with a base around 8cm, in silver or gold.
The standard is a 100x150cm flag on a floor pole of 220cm or 240cm. It is made in double-layer satin with a BSN interliner so the flag holds a full drape indoors, where there is no wind to open it.
Pantone 186 C. We print with high-definition digital printing, double-sided and fade-resistant, which keeps the red stable outdoors and consistent between sizes.
Yes. Sizes outside the standard eighteen are produced to order for fixed mast hardware, historic buildings and stage sets. Send us the hoist measurement and we calculate the fly at 2:3, or send the pole height and we recommend the size.
